I remember this one time when I walked into a friend’s house for the first time and was immediately alarmed by the ghastly smells that circulated around the house. I am pretty sure someone has felt the same way when they walked into my house as well. Every house has its own unique odor as a result of its inhabitant’s actions and lifestyle choices. As a result, I have burned a hole in my pocket sometimes to make my house smell better only to realise that there are affordable options which you give you better results.

A breath of fresh air: A sealed room causes the odor to be trapped inside. Opening a few windows and letting fresh air in from time to time will improve the air circulation and cause the stench to be flushed out from the room. Inhaling fresh air has its own benefits and what’s more, satisfying is that this costs you nothing monetarily.

When life gives you lemons: If the above hack doesn’t hold good for you or if a certain area of your house doesn’t have access to fresh air, don’t fret, because lemons are here to the rescue.

Take a lemon and squeeze the juice out which you can use it in your cooking adventures. Now fill the lemon rind with baking soda and leave it aside. The baking soda absorbs the odor while the lemon starts to release a fruity citrusy smell. You can use these lemons for a few days or until you don’t smell the lemony flavor anymore.

If you desire a quicker way to get that lemon scent flowing simply boil some lemons in hot water and let that fruit-infused stream take over. I also prefer adding a drop of rosemary essential oil to create a more earthy aroma. You can play with different essential oils to discover your own unique signature scent that is appealing to you.

The dynamic duo:  There are some objects in your house that are on a mission to make your house smell awful, one such being your drains. There are loads of over the counter drain cleaners (Atrada) to quick fix the issue, however, if you are looking at a more natural option use the dynamic duo. The dynamic duo is nothing but vinegar and baking soda, simple right! So when you feel that its time for some tender loving drain cleaning time pour some baking soda and let it sit for a while, follow it with some vinegar. Once this mixture has done its magic wash it all down with some hot water and voila the drain is no longer giving out the foul stench that once was driving you insane.

Use these hacks regularly and you will be beaming from ear to ear because your new improved house is all the aromatherapy you need!
